Friends Say They Feared an Overdose

Narcan would not treat a cocaine overdose, but witnesses sometimes use it instinctively in cases involving unresponsive individuals because the symptoms can appear similar.
The friend, who claimed he had been livestreaming the interaction, said he acted out of caution rather than evidence of an opioid-related emergency.
When contacted by USA TODAY, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, which was reportedly called to the scene, declined to confirm whether paramedics treated Dick. “Without the patient’s written consent, the LAFD cannot confirm identities or release protected details,” the representative said.
